One of the biggest factors determining where you land in this range is the type of employment a position offers. Are you a freelancer or a contractor, or an employee? The Art of Pitching For Fashion Writing Jobs

Fashion Writing Jobs Pitch

The upside of writing in the fashion industry is you can reach out directly to fashion brands and businesses you love and pitch them stories and content ideas.

For a leg up, here are a few things to remember.

  1. Be strategic about whom you submit your pitch to. You want to connect with a decision-maker. So don’t send your idea to a general website email address.
  2. To find a magazine editor, look first at the magazine masthead. You can also check LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram to find names and email addresses.
  3. Keep your story ideas relevant to the publication. For example, don’t pitch a fashion magazine an article about how amazing football is. Instead, pitch the story as What to Wear to This Year’s Super Bowl Party.
  4. Make sure your story idea is original. Search the brand’s website to see if they’ve already published a similar story. If so, go back to the drawing board and develop something new.
  5. Don’t be afraid to follow up. If you haven’t heard from an editor in a couple of weeks, reach out. But don’t follow up more than once or twice.
